Find the Right Layout for Your Lifestyle

Choosing the right Airstream isn’t just about length or features - it’s about how the space works for the way you travel.

From queen bed layouts to twin configurations and newer office designs, each floor plan offers a different experience on the road. This guide breaks down the most common Airstream layouts so you can quickly understand what fits your lifestyle best.

Understanding Airstream Layout Names

Airstream model names often include letters that describe the layout:

Front Bed Queen (FBQ)

A queen bed positioned at the front of the trailer, oriented lengthwise (north-south), with access typically from the foot and partial side access.

What It Feels Like
As you walk in, you’re facing the living space, with the bedroom at the far end. The bed sits snugly into the curved shell, maximizing space efficiency.

Best For

  • Couples who prefer a traditional sleeping setup

  • Travelers who want a defined bedroom area

Pros

  • Simple, familiar layout

  • Efficient use of space

  • Comfortable for longer stays

Considerations

  • Limited walk-around space compared to residential beds

  • Storage is more centralized vs spread out

Rear Bed Queen (RBQ)

A queen bed positioned at the rear of the trailer, also oriented lengthwise, with the living and kitchen space toward the front.

What It Feels Like
Walking in, you’re immediately in the lounge/kitchen area, with the bedroom tucked toward the back for a more private feel.

Best For

  • Travelers who want separation between living and sleeping areas

  • Those who prioritize a larger front lounge

Pros

  • More open, social front living space

  • Bedroom feels slightly more tucked away

Considerations

  • Same as FBQ - limited side access to the bed

  • Less flexible than twin layouts
